The Foundation Program focuses on the most basic building blocks of reading. It introduces children to essential words made up of short and long vowels (a, e, i, o, u).
Through engaging and systematic lessons, children will learn to recognise, pronounce, and read these fundamental vowel sounds. This solid foundation is crucial for developing strong reading skills and preparing for more advanced literacy concepts.
The program is designed to be accessible and enjoyable, ensuring that early learners gain confidence and proficiency in their reading abilities.
The Blend Builders Program builds on the foundation of short and long vowels, introducing children to blends, digraphs, and variations of sounds for the letters c, g, and s.
This program helps children combine vowel sounds with consonant blends and digraphs, enhancing their ability to decode and read more complex words.
The Blend Builders Program is designed to make learning these new concepts fun and engaging, ensuring that children continue to build strong reading skills with confidence.
The Blend Builders Plus Program consolidates knowledge from the Foundation and Blend Builders programs, using a familiar base of short and long vowel sounds.
In this program, children will encounter longer and more complex words, including double-syllable words. Additionally, they will be introduced to the letter “y” when it makes a long “e” sound, as well as the suffix “tion.”
Through engaging lessons and activities, children will enhance their reading skills, gaining confidence in decoding and understanding more advanced words and concepts.
In the Vowel Variations Program, we introduce children to the diverse range of vowel sounds beyond the basic short and long vowels.
This program explores different vowel sounds and letter combinations, helping children recognise and pronounce a wider array of words. Examples include sounds like “oo” as in “too,” “ow” as in “now,” and “oo” as in “look,” among others.
This program is designed to enhance their reading fluency and confidence by exposing them to the rich variety of vowel sounds in the English language.
The Vowel Variations Plus Program is the final program in the Reading Switch series.
It explores the remaining vowel variation sounds and letter patterns not yet covered in our previous programs. Children will learn to recognise and pronounce sounds like “air” as in “hair,” “ear” as in “near,” “or” as in “for,” and “er” as in “her,” among others.
This program aims to complete their understanding of vowel sounds, enhancing their reading fluency and confidence with complex words and patterns.
